I am not a big wine 2017 Nestarec

The last few years people tend to talk about terroir, kegs, batonage, etc. Big wine is a thing. I'm not saying it's not important, but when I drink wine with my friends we just talk about life and have fun. So simple. Soil, bedrock, barrique stones - we couldn't care less.

Every winemaker wants to make great wine and works hard at it. But most of the wines that registered with me weren't great. They just had some energy to share with their drinkers. Drunk at the right time, in the right place and with the right people, which I think is more important. Most of the really good winemakers who inspire me don't showcase their wine as "great" anyway.

And this wine is my answer to that. I like making "small" wines, as long as they are fun to make. Based on wines with the highest zing, usually with little skin contact, usually with old vines. Riesling, Chardonnay and a dash of local varietals from a few different vineyards. Aged in local acacia barrels for freshness but still some ability to age. We usually bottle it to 750ml, so that's not possible anyway, lol.
